Welcome to the guideline page for the BRMCWC paid critique service. We've expanded the areas of critiques to better reflect the writing world.

For the 2012 Manuscript Critiques you must be registered for the entire conference to have your manuscript critiqued.

Critiques are available for yet-to-be published AS WELL AS published authors.

BLUE RIDGE MOUNTAINS CHRISTIAN WRITERS CONFERENCE MANUSCRIPT CRITIQUES

E-MAILS ONLY unless otherwise noted. Please place the following in the subject line: BRMCWC CRITIQUE ENTRY.

You will receive a written one-page critique or comments written on your submitted pages. A 15-minute private appointment will be scheduled so you can meet with the professional doing the critique.

Deadline for entries maybe noted by the person's name below. Look carefully at the list of names and see if there is still time for your manuscript to be e-mailed to one of our faculty. No date means the faculty will close submissions at a future but yet to be determined date

Include a cover sheet with your name, e-mail address, title and category. Also include your name, title, and page number on each page.

REVIEWERS have a limit on the number of entries they will critique. When they reach their limit of entries, their names will be removed from this list. You may submit in many categories, but only one entry per category.

PLEASE BRING A COPY OF YOUR MATERIAL TO THE CONFERENCE. Specific guidelines for submissions are listed below. CRITIQUE FEE is $30 per entry. Mail checks, payable to the reviewer. An address will be sent to you AFTER you have submitted your material. Include your name, title of entry, and e-mail address with your check.

(open) = No specific cutoff date. Faculty member closes submissions at a future date.

Categories and Submission Guidelines:

A word about formatting: With the exception of poetry, children’s picture books, and scripts, submissions should be double spaced, presented in a 12 pt. serif font (like Times New Roman or similar) with one inch margins. Scripts and plays should be submitted in standard film or A/V format.

Please limit size of submissions as listed below. Longer submissions will not be read.

Articles – for print: (non-fiction, true events, or experiences) – approx. 1000-3000 words.
Articles – for the Internet: (non-fiction, true events or experiences) – no more than 700 words.
Blog Critique. Email your blog link to faculty member.
Devotions: (limit of three - no longer than two pages each).
Church Dramas – Plays/Skits: Submit a two-line synopsis (stating theme and focus of script, and entire script (no screenplays or teleplays in this category).
Film scripts. Submit short treatment (no more than five pages) and Act 1. Scripts may be for general or Christian audiences and may come from any of the traditional move genres including drama, adventure, comedy, etc.
Documentary script. Submit short treatment (no more than five pages) and first 25 pages of script.
Visual Media. Submit a short YouTube style video. Provide link to video carrier (YouTube, Vimeo, etc). Video may be live action or computer generated. Submission should be 10 minutes or less. Reviewer may allow longer, but query first.
Non-fiction books: (true life stories, inspirational guidelines, motivational, encouragement, to-do, etc.) – Submit a two-three page outline and first 30 pages – may include introduction.
Novellas: (fiction stories ranging from 20,000-30,000 words) – Submit a two-three page synopsis and first pages, not to exceed 20 pages.
Novels: (fiction stories ranging from 45,000 – approx. 75,000 words) – Submit a two-three page synopsis and first pages, not to exceed 40 pages (if prologue submitted, it’s part of the 40 pages).
Poetry: (three poems or three pages is one entry).
Bible Studies: Submit outline and first 30 pages.
Novels for Young Adult: Submit a two-three page synopsis and first pages, not to exceed 40 pages (if prologue submitted, it’s part of the 40 pages)
Nonfiction for Young Adult. (true life stories, inspirational guidelines, motivational, encouragement, to-do, etc.) – Submit a two-three page outline and first 30 pages – may include introduction.
Short Story: Fiction less that 3000 words.
Flash Fiction: Fiction less that 500 words.
Children’s Chapter Book: Submit short summary and 20 pages.
Children's Middle Grade: Submit short summary and 20 pages.
Children’s Picture Book: Submit entire work.
