CRITIQUES and CONTESTS

 

 

Here are details for the 2011 Christian Writers Contest and Manuscript Critiques

 You must be registered for the entire conference in order to compete in the contest and/or to have your manuscript critiqued.

 

BLUE RIDGE MOUNTAINS CHRISTIAN WRITERS CONFERENCE MANUSCRIPT CRITIQUES

 

E-MAILS ONLY unless otherwise noted. Please place the following in the subject line: BRMCWC CRITIQUE ENTRY. You will receive a written one-page critique or comments written on your pages. A 15-minute private appointment will be arranged with your critiquer. Deadline for entries is noted by the person's name below. Look carefully at the list of names and see if there is still time for your manuscript critique to be emailed to one of our faculty. Include a cover sheet with your name, e-mail address, title and category. Also include your name, title, and page number on each page.

REVIEWERS have a limit on the number entries they will critique. When they reach their limit of entries, their names will be removed from this list. You may submit in many categories, but only one entry per category.

PLEASE BRING A COPY OF YOUR MATERIAL TO THE CONFERENCE. (Guidelines and submission rules are same as for contest below.)

CRITIQUE FEE is $30 for each entry. Mail checks, payable to your critiquer, to an address to be given to you after you have e-mailed your material to the the faculty member doing the critique. Include your name, title of entry, email address with your check.

(#) = total number of critiques accepted (Some critique faculty are listed in more than one category. The number critiques accept are totals, not the number per category. For example, (10) = the total number of submissions regardless of how many categories the faculty member may be listed in.)

(open) = No specific date. Faculty member closes submissions at a future date.

CONTESTS

 

BLUE RIDGE MOUNTAINS CHRISTIAN WRITERS CONFERENCE CONTEST for UNPUBLISHED WRITERS (not published in any category) - $20 each When e-mailing your CONTEST ENTRY, please place in the subject line: BRMCWC CONTEST ENTRY and email to alton@altongansky.com. The contest is separate from the critique service. You may enter a copy of the same manuscript for critique. Only contest entries are to be emailed to Alton Gansky, along with your $20 check payable to "Alton Gansky" with “BRMCWC contest” in the “for” line. Send check to Alton Gansky, 4721 W. Princeton Avenue, Fresno, CA 93722.

CONTEST GUIDELINES & RULES: If you have been paid for your writing in any publication category, then you are ineligible for this contest in that category. (For example, if a publication paid you for devotion, then you may not enter the contest in the devotion category, but you may enter in a different category.) 

A note to self-published authors: If you paid for publication by a self-publishing company which did not pay an advance or royalty, then you may enter the contest. If the company paid for your material, then you are ineligible. 

You may enter in more than one category, but we accept only one entry per category. Deadline for entries is April 5, 2011. Submit a cover page labeled BRMCWC CONTEST ENTRY and include your name, address, category and title of entry. Do not put your name on pages of the manuscript since these will be emailed anonymously to judges. CATEGORIES:

1. Articles: (non-fiction, true events or experiences) – approx. 1000-3000 words.

 

2. Devotionals: (limit of three - no longer than two pages each, double spaced).

 

3. Church Dramas – Plays/Skits: Submit a two-line synopsis (stating theme and focus of script, and entire script (no screenplays or teleplays).

 

4. Non-fiction books: (true life stories, inspirational guidelines, motivational, encouragement, to-do, etc.) – Submit two-three page outline and first 30 pages – may include introduction – double-space all pages (more than 30 pages will not be read).

 

5. Novellas: (fiction stories ranging from 20,000-30,000 words) – Submit two-three page synopsis and first pages, not to exceed 20 pages – double-space all pages (more than 20 pages will not be read).

 

6. Novels: (fiction stories ranging from 45,000 – approx. 75,0000 words) – Submit two-three page synopsis and first pages, not to exceed 40 pages (if prologue submitted, it’s part of the 40 pages) – double-space all pages (more than 40 pages will not be read).

 

7. Poetry: (three poems or three pages is one entry).

 

8. Short Stories: (fiction stories – truth enveloped in an imaginative story such as parables Jesus told) – approx. 1000-3000 words.

 

9. Bible Studies: Submit outline and first 30 pages, double-spaced.

 

10.  Stories and Books for Children and Young Adult.

BRMCWC offers First, Second, Third and Honorable Mention Certificates. All First Place winning entries in each category will be judged for the AWARD OF EXCELLENCE. The highest award winner will receive a trophy plus $200 scholarship toward the 2011 BRMCWC May conference or the October 2011 Advanced Retreat.

CRITIQUES WILL NOT BE GIVEN ON CONTEST ENTRIES UNLESS SUBMITTED SEPARATELY FOR CRITIQUE.
