[Ed. Note--Meeting other writers is one of the great advantages of attending BRMCWC. At our last conference I had the pleasure of meeting Lochlanina Tobey, a poet. She has been kind enough to share some of her work. Below is her poem Water Strider.]
by
Lochlanina Tobey
Lava lamp shadow bubbles blend merge
rush across the rockbed of stream.
Barely visible the surface
holds the skimmer, this is
the burden water bears.
What are ships and floating fall leaves
to compare? The skater sits lightly
on the water like air,
air trapped in microseta
and nanoscale grooves,
the hierarchical structure of the leg,
which shapes the hemispherical vortex
at the leg - water interface.
Science can explain the magic
bug, how it walks on water.
The miracle, so empirically observable
and still we cannot know what faith it takes
to believe the inflexible
surface tension, like truth,
like stepping out of the boat.

Good choice, Alton. That's my favorite of the ones I sent you.

Thank you, Susan. Susan's poetry has also been recognized by Utmost Christian Writers in their annual contest. But I was reading her wonderful blog, Accidental Poet (great name), long before I knew that.
